Wamsutta Family Update 8/17/2018
Posted on 08/17/2018
Good afternoon, Wamsutta Families!
We are just about to send our back to school mailing off to the post office.  In the envelope you will hopefully receive shortly, you will find the Superintendent’s Welcome Letter, the WMS Welcome Letter, the School Supply List, and the Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures.  On the WMS Welcome Letter, you can find the homeroom number of your student highlighted in the upper right-hand corner.  These documents are attached above for your reference, though you will have to wait for the actual mailing to see the homeroom number.
Both the Superintendent’s and WMS Welcome Letters contain important information for you and your student as we begin the year.  Information about important changes to school security, specifically the requirement of all students and staff to wear official IDs at all times, is included.  Also included are important WMS dates over the next month for both students and families.  Please familiarize yourself with them when you have a moment.
What is not included in the mailing is either attached above or explained below, or both.  We hope this information is helpful to all our families.
1.       Staffing Updates:  We are very pleased to announce that we have restored some positions here at WMS that were eliminated two years ago.  We have a new STEAM program that all students will take as part of their Essentials rotation run by Ms. Macalister, who has served as a long-term substitute for Science and other subjects here over the past year.  We have added a 5th grade position that has allowed for all 5th graders to be on two-person teams for their core academics. Ms. McLoughlin (who many families may know as a long-time Hyman Fine teacher) and Ms. Gustafson (who will be taking over for the now retired Ms. Debold) will be our new team members.  We have two teachers joining us from Coelho Middle as well:  The addition of Ms. Cannata (replacing the now retired Mr. McCarthy in 6th) and Ms. Mulvehill (taking over our LAP program in 7th) will allow us to once again have a dedicated inclusion specialist in each grade.  I know you will join me in welcoming all our new staff.
2.       In addition to email, Aspen is a communication tool that helps students and families stay up to date with grading and other important information.  If you have an account, this Aspen Family/Student Portalbrochure can help you reset passwords and other helpful tips.  If you don’t have an Aspen account, please email mcampion@attleboroschools.com or lfigura@attleboroschools.com and they can help set you up.  Student Aspen accounts will be distributed for all students on the first day back.  Please know that if you do access Aspen now you won’t be able to see much.  We are still rolling over information about the schedule at this time.  By the time our students arrive, however, all info regarding schedules will be up to date and visible in Aspen.
3.       Lastly, the Back To School Bash is on for tomorrow at 11 AM at Studley Elementary School.  More information can be found in the above attachment.
I hope everyone gets to enjoy these last days of school break and I look forward to seeing all the students on the 29th.
Thank you as always for your time and attention.
