Wamsutta Family Update 08/30/2018
Posted on 08/30/2018
Good afternoon Wamsutta Families:
I’m sorry to bombard your inboxes with so many emails these past days.  I work hard to keep my updates to once a week whenever possible.  My next planned email is Friday, September 7th.  Let’s hope for no more half-days so I can fulfill this pledge.
1.       On behalf of the entire staff of WMS, I want to thank all our students and families for their cooperation with our new ID system.  We had fewer than 10 students report to school this morning without them.  If you can help us keep reminding the students to bring them in over the next weeks, we hope it will become a habit and we won’t have to focus on it as much.
2.       Regarding the lanyard, many students have asked if they can use one of their own.  This is fine, but the lanyards must be of the breakaway variety for safety purposes.  If they break off when pulled, students are free to use what they would like.
3.       Our first PTO meeting is September 11th in the Library at 6:30.  As you will read below from the Wamsutta PTOs Facebook post by President Jenn Corbett, we really need your help:
There are a few items I’d like to go over so we can try to stay ahead of the game.
1. This is the biggest... I am on the final year of my PTO Presidency. Even if I wanted to continue, I have a son in the 8th grade and will be heading to the HS next year. It is SO IMPORTANT that we line up a new board for next year. Rob Fregault is currently taking over as treasurer (also on his last year at Wamsutta) we are in need of a secretary and Lori Martin is finishing up her term as VP. As you can see, we have a dilemma here. Without a board, you cannot function as a PTO. Without a PTO you will be without enrichment programs, subsidized field trips, Teacher Appreciation events, Student of the Month awards, money towards technology... the list could go on! I have worked hard for 3 years to build up our PTO funds in order for all of this to happen and I am proud of what we have accomplished. I’d hate to see that come to an end! I know it’s added work to your already busy schedules, but please consider getting involved.
2. Instead of a calendar raffle fundraiser for the beginning of the year, we decided to do Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough. I think the item sells itself so I’m hoping it won’t be difficult. It comes frozen and gets delivered to the school. We will give you plenty of time to plan for pick-up. Currently I have it scheduled to be delivered before Thanksgiving. Final orders will be taken on October 18th in order to ensure for such delivery. Look for information about this fundraiser mid-September. I don’t want to overwhelm families the moment we start school.
3. Celtics Night:  Due to the successful season of our beloved team, season ticket holder numbers have gone up!!!This means limited opportunities for school events. I did, however, take the liberty of booking us for this opportunity in July so we could get on the list. We were told to each pick 3 dates. I did look at the dates, but I was also trying to be frugal of the cost of specific games. We will have our answer on August 31st. Once we know what date we have been selected for, tickets will be ready to be sold!! Last year we had some last-minute additions, but I was told that will not be possible this year.
4. We are in the process of working out a family comedy night. I’m gathering more information and will be presenting it at our 1st PTO meeting on September 11 @ 6:30 PM. I hope you will join us and bring more exciting ideas to the table!
Lastly, there has been a red mountain bike locked to our bike rack since May.  If it belongs to you, please come get it.  We will cut the lock and remove it in the next weeks if it remains unclaimed.
Thank you as always for your time and attention, and enjoy the Labor Day weekend.
