Wamsutta Family Update 09/14/2018
Posted on 09/14/2018
Good morning, Wamsutta families.
I apologize for the length of this email, but we have lots of news for you.
Backpack Alert and Digital Notices:  Information about dental services, Attleboro Arts Museum art classes, a picture day reminder, Celtics Night, and our Fall Fundraiser (more information on Celtics Night and the Fall Fundraiser below) all went home on paper today.  We have information from AYBA, the Girl Scouts, and Stop and Shop Rewards Program attached as well.
1.       PTO:  I would like to thank the many people who attended our first meeting.  It was the best attendance we have had in the three years I have been here.  Our next meeting will be October 9th at 6:30 and we hope to continue our momentum.
2.       PTO Fun:  Celtics Night order forms were sent home today.  We have limited availability.  Students who wish to go should return their forms and payments directly to the main office on Monday morning.  The first 25 students get to participate in an on the court experience, and the next 50 get to go to the game.  We will take all forms that are submitted before 10 AM and, if the 25 or 75 number is exceeded, we will run a quick lottery to see who gets what.  We will repeat this process until we sell out.
3.       PTO Fundraising:  The information for our Cookies and More Fall Fundraiser went home today as well.  There is a nice selection of goodies to choose from, and the kids can earn prizes if they sell a certain number of items.  There is an option for online sales as well included in the packet.  We will run this until October 10th, and will have a delivery to school before Thanksgiving for family pickup.  Please consider squaring away some of your Holiday dessert needs by participating and help our school in the process.
4.       PTO Fundraising Part Two and Three:  Our participation in the Stop and Shop School Rewards Program netted the school $1,318 last year.  If you shop there, registration is easy and it does make a difference for the kinds of supports and enrichment activities we can offer.  The directions are attached.  We are also continuing to participate in the General Mills’ Box Tops for Education Program.  Buy the products; clip the Box Tops; send the Box Tops to school in a zipā€lock bag. Label the bag with your child’s homeroom number. At the end of the year, the homeroom that has collected the most Box Tops will win a prize donated by the PTO.  The Box Tops do not have to be cut out perfectly, but they MUST have the date. No expired Box Tops will be accepted. Please do not send any in that will expire before March 1, 2019.
5.       PTO Fundraising Part Four:  For those families that use Amazon for online shopping, we are registered for Amazon Smile.  Similar to registering your Stop and Shop Card to get our school benefits for shopping the way you normally do with the A+ school rewards program, Amazon Smile rewards Wamsutta Middle School for registering us as your charitable organization of choice and then shopping as you normally do.  Please consider it.  Please goHERE for details.  Thank you for those that have already registered us for Amazon Smile rewards and thank you in advance for those that will.
6.       UPCOMING DATES:  Friday, September 21st will be a half day, and Wednesday, September 26th will be Picture Day for students during the day and our Open House and Curriculum Night for families from from 6 – 8 PM.  More information about our Curriculum Night and Open House will go home next week.
Lastly, we had many students participate in the YMCA’s Reach and Rise Program last year.  This youth mentoring program will be starting soon on Wednesdays from 3:00 – 5:00 pm (November through May).  Reach and Rise is a free group mentoring program of the YMCA established to provide young people in the community with positive peer relationships.  2 adults members are matched with a group of 6 youth to facilitate discussions and activities relevant to each mentee’s daily life.  Activities may include discussing different topics such as self-image, communication, feelings, life skills, relationships and school engagement, practicing social skills through role play and other fun games, community service project.  Transportation from Wamsutta to the Y and from the Y home is included in this free program.   There are a limited number of spots, if interested please contact our adjustment counselor, Karyn McGee at kmcgee@attleboroschools.com or 508-222-1922 extension 306.
Thank you as always for your time and attention.
