Dear Wamsutta Students and Families:

On behalf of the staff of Wamsutta Middle School, welcome back for the 2017-2018 school year!  We are excited to see the students return for their first day on Wednesday, August 30th.  In the upper right hand corner of this letter is the homeroom assignment for all students.  Students in grades 6-8 should report to this room by 7:50 to begin the year.  Students in grade 5 will report to our Gym by 7:50 to be escorted to their homerooms by their teachers.  Regardless of your student’s grade, all of our staff will be present in the hallways and driveways to ensure every student gets to where they need to be for a successful start.  Once every student is settled in the appropriate homerooms, final schedules for students will be distributed.

In addition to student schedules, several important forms will be distributed on the first day.  Free and reduced lunch information, medical forms, the handbook sign-off, and Aspen login information for both students and families will be distributed.  Please help us keep our records up to date by filling them out completely and returning them to the homeroom teacher in a timely fashion.  Of vital importance is the “Student Emergency Information” form (this will be on yellow paper) that ensures we know how best to reach you.  This will be crucial not only for emergencies, but for our ability to communicate with families in general.  As we move towards more and more electronic communication, your email address is particularly important to update.

Included with this letter is Superintendent David Sawyer’s welcome letter, the school supply list (reverse of this letter) and a map of the school with directions for parent pick-up and drop-off.

Finally, below are some important dates and information on student lunches and planners:

  • There has been a change in our lunch prices.  Lunch prices across the district were increased by 15 cents, so our new student lunch price is $2.90.
  • Thursday, August 24th from 3-5 PM:  Assistant Principal Raymond Lamore, Jr. and I will be opening the doors for students and families wishing to meet our Administrative Team and have a chance to informally tour the building.  Please email us at jconnor@attleboroschools.com or rlamore@attleboroschools.com if you wish to take advantage of this opportunity.
  • Tuesday, September 12th: First PTO Meeting in the Library, 6:30 PM
  • Wednesday, September 20th:  Grades 5-8 Curriculum Night, 6-8 PM
  • Friday, September 15th:  Early Release Day, Students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM
  • Wednesday, September 27th: School Picture Day
  • Student planners will be available in students’ homerooms for a nominal fee of $3.00 during the first week of school.  Each student is expected to purchase a planner.

Respectfully,

Joseph A. Connor

Principal
