Wamsutta Family Update 9.15.17
Posted on 09/19/2017

Good afternoon Wamsutta Families:

Another good week concluded here at WMS as we look forward to our first full week next week.  Most of the initial class building activities and baseline assessment is in the rearview mirror, and we look forward to digging into the content and skill instruction of our classes more fully.  Although I do my best to keep this email short every week, this one is rather lengthy.

  1. Backpack Alert:  Nothing on paper this week.  Attached, however, is information from the Boy Scouts of America, the Girl Scouts of Southeastern NE, the Annual Attleboro Elks Youth Soccer Shoot, and the Youth Center/Attleboro Recreation Department.  Our friends from these organizations have many opportunities available for your children.  Be sure to check them out.
  2. As your children may have told you, Mr. Dodge has been out on a medical leave.  He has worked closely with our substitute to continue the lessons he normally has planned for the first few Music classes.  He is scheduled to return within the next week or so, and he will be getting all things both Music class and Band related off the ground shortly thereafter.  I hope you will join me in welcoming him back when he returns.
  3. We are fortunate to be hosting most of the Attleboro Special Education Parent Advisory Council meetings this year.  If you have a child receiving IEP services, the ASEPAC is a great resource.  The first meeting will be held on Thursday, September 28th in the WMS Library at 6:30.  I hope to see you there.
  4. The PTO’s 8th Grade Subcommittee’s first meeting will be Wednesday, October 4th at 6 PM here in our Library.  The many activities we offer our 8th grade students (Lock-in, Basketball Game, Canobie Lake Trip, Social) do not happen without our dedicated 8th grade teachers and significant family support.  Please join Mr. Lamore if you can help.
  5. Our Book Fair will be held from Monday, September 25th to Friday, September 29th.  More information will be sent out next week.
  6. School Picture Day will be held on September 27th.  If you misplaced the flyer, you can go to mylifetouch.com and enter picture day ID MV227008Q0 to do your ordering.  We also have a few flyers left over in the office should you need to do it on paper.  Call the main office for help should you need it.
  7. All Fee for Service late applications have been processed as of Wednesday, September 13, 2017. Students were eligible to ride the bus on Thursday, September 14, 2017. Bus passes were printed and distributed today.
  8. REPEAT NOTICE:  Our Curriculum Night will be Wednesday, September 27th at 6 PM.  You will have a chance to meet your child’s teachers, hear from Administration about our school’s goals, get help with Aspen, get information about our new Positive Behavior Intervention and Support Program, and more.  We hope to see you there.
  9. REPEAT NOTICE:  The first District Travel Meeting will be Tuesday, October 3rd at 6:30 PM at Attleboro High School.  I was lucky enough to attend last year’s DC trip with 8th graders from all our Middle Schools.  I highly recommend that our 8th grade families consider it.  There are other opportunities as well for other grades.  Please attend to find out more information about the opportunities available.

I hope everyone enjoys the last weekend of summer.  Thank you as always for your time and attention.
