Wamsutta Family Update 01/10/2020
Posted on 01/10/2020

Good morning, Wamsutta Families.  After a few weeks of short updates, I have a lengthy one for you this week.

BACKPACK ALERT AND DIGITAL NOTICES:  Two notices are going home on paper today, one is just for the 8th grade concerning our student faculty basketball game.  The other paper headed home is outlined below in item number one.  For digital notices from the community, we have news from the APL, Roger Williams Park Zoo, and Bridgewater State’s Science Academy over February break.

Other items:

1.       Our “Faculty & Friends v. 8th Grade Students” basketball game is coming up on Friday the 31st.  It is one of our big fundraisers every year.  All students will receive an envelope containing 1 pack of 5 raffle tickets.  We hope you can participate in our raffle that takes place at the end of the game.  You can win even if you don’t attend.  There are two grand prizes:  An Apple iWatch and a 65-inch television.  Raffle tickets are $3.00 each, or $10.00 for the book of 5.  In addition to filling out the raffle ticket front, students should put their name on the back of the ticket as well as the student who sells the most raffle tickets will get a prize.  We hope that everyone will participate.  If students need more raffle tickets to sell, they will be available in the main office.

2.       Admission tickets to attend the basketball game itself will be on sale during lunches starting on Monday.  The cost of each ticket will be $7.00.

3.       Principal Runey from AHS will be coming by to briefly talk with our 7th and 8th graders next Tuesday.  He will be promoting Blue Pride Night at AHS on the 30th.  For those who do not know, Blue Pride Night is a showcase of all the academic, athletic, extra- and co-curricular activities, clubs, and programs AHS has to offer.  7th and 8th grade students and their families are encouraged to attend.

4.       National Junior Honor Society is going to be running a “wear a hat day” on next Friday the 17th. The cost is $1.00 and they can "purchase" their hat wearing permission at lunch Monday through Thursday of next week.  All monies raised will be donated to our Art Department, per NJHS student candidates’ wishes.

5.       CHORUS UPDATE:  Sign-ups have been brisk and we are a go to start our Chorus after school on January 23!  Any questions contact Ms. Harney at sharney@attleboroschools.com.

6.       SECOND NOTICE:  8th GRADE FAMILIES:   You can celebrate your student’s milestones and successes with a yearbook ad. Create and purchase online by February 13 at jostensadservice.com to be included in this year’s yearbook.  If you have questions, please email mmedeiros@attleboroschools.com.

7.       THIRD NOTICE:  Nearly all our classes are of the year-long variety.  STEM and Music are the exceptions, they run for half the year then switch.  The first day of this switch will be January 21.  Grades will close on the 21st and will be available in Aspen at that time.  Final grades for each course will appear on the trimester two report cards.
