Wamsutta Family Update 04/10/2020
Posted on 04/10/2020

Good morning Wamsutta students and families.

I continue to hope everyone is doing as well as they can be.  I have done my best to make this as short as possible, and it’s still pretty long.

1.       I have the remote learning plans for next week.  They are linked below and attached in PDF form as well.  I hope both students and their families are finding these plans as clear and as meaningful as possible.  Students, please do your best on this work and take advantage of the opportunities your teachers have offered you to help.

Grade 5

Grade 6

Grade 7

Grade 8

2.       The School Committee adjusted our school calendar for April break at their meeting on Monday.  We are trying to balance a need to take a break and a need to not lose any recently gained momentum on the remote learning that started in earnest just this week.  To that end, in my email to you next week, the Remote Learning Plans will provide a full week of work for students during April break.  This will allow us to both try to keep student learning going and let us end the school year two days earlier than previously scheduled.  The new last day of school will be Friday, June 19.

We at WMS will be focusing our direct instruction and teacher availability on Tuesday and Wednesday of April break, and attempting to provide as much non-digital learning opportunities for other days, so that students can get away from their screens if they need to do so.  I’ll have more information on this in my update next week.

3.       This is usually a time when we are finalizing our yearbook with pictures of 8th grade events, all of our student clubs and after-school activities, and so on.  This isn’t happening, so we will have a few pages of our yearbook opened up.  To memorialize this we are going to have a section on what you have been up to with your Remote Learning.  Feel free to send pictures of what you have been doing to me or Mr. Duquette at eduquette@attleboroschools.com.   We would like to see what you are up to whether it goes in the yearbook or not.  If you have submitted pictures for the Instagram page the Specialist teachers have set up, that’s great to and they don’t need to be submitted again to me or Mr. Duquette.

4.       If you need any passwords reset, please contact mcampion@attleboroschools.com or lfigura@attleboroschools.com

Lastly, we have had another family displaced by a fire last week.  Our students are in 6th and 7th grade.  They are ok, but the fire took much from them.  Unlike when another family went through this recently, the school cannot function as a bridge between those who wish to help and the family.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Ms. Aupont, the mother of our two students, at
reginaaupont@gmail.com.  In light of everything else going on, I am sure our community will once again rally around them.

Thank you as always for your time.
