Wamsutta Family Update 04/27/2018
Posted on 04/27/2018
Good morning, Wamsutta Families.  Another week of testing is in the books.  All grades have had their ELA assessment, and I was pleased overall with the effort of the kids, which is really all we ask for.  As I told the students this morning, although there are tests ahead and it doesn’t get any easier, the Math and Science assessments are at least shorter in duration.  We hope the kids keep up their efforts, because if they give it their best shot, we do get a good look at what students’ strengths and weaknesses are, and can attempt to personalize instruction in the coming years.  The remaining MCAS dates are below.
Backpack Alert and Digital Notices:  On paper this week, and just for grades 5 and 6, are two notices from the YMCA.  One is for summer camp, and one is for Healthy Kids Day, which is tomorrow.  The only attachment this week is from our Transportation Department with another reminder for FFS busing next year.
  1. Our first week of Color Run registration continues.  You should have received registration packets last week.  If you didn’t, you can still do things online at http://shop.schoolathon.org/EventIndex.asp?EID=190100.   Although today is the last day to register if you wish your child to receive a homework pass, we are accepting registrations through next Friday, May 4th.  We will accept registrations right up to the moment of the run on the 11th, but if they are not in by the 4th we cannot provide T-shirts and prizes on the day of the event.
  1. Our Glee Club will be hosting a performance next Wednesday, May 2nd at 7 PM.  This is the first year of our Glee Club and hope you will come by to see what the students have been working on.
  1. Representatives from the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office will be by to present to our 6th graders this Monday about online safety and cyberbullying.
  1. MCAS Upcoming Dates:
Grade 5 and 8 Math:Tuesday and Wednesday, May 1 and 2
Grade 6 and 7 Math:Tuesday and Wednesday, May 8 and 9
Grade 5 and 8 Science:Tuesday and Wednesday, May 15 and 16
Other upcoming events include a school dance on May 18, a Someone Special Dance on June 8, and the finally-rescheduled Diversity Potluck Dinner on June 13.  More info on these three events next week.
Thank you as always for your time an attention.
