Wamsutta Family Update 05/15/2020
Posted on 05/15/2020

Good morning WMS students and families.

Linked below and attached above I have the plans for next week.  I have also attached an immunization notice attached for current 6th graders that should have been mailed to you already.  I also have a flyer attached with info from the Attleboro Rec Department’s summer programs, programs at Bridgewater State, and some information from the Attleboro Public Library.

Grade 5

Grade 6

Grade 7

Grade 8

As per usual, I ask that our students and families do their best with these plans and communicate with teachers as best they can when there are issues.  This pattern will continue until the plans released on June 5th.  The plans given that day will include a few days along the lines of what we have been doing, and then a transition to the Summer Enrichment Packet, which teachers will guide students through from the 10th through the end of school on the 19th.  More to come on this soon.

In other news:

1.       We are starting to get clarity on how we are getting kids back in the building to get their stuff, drop stuff off, and say goodbye to the teachers for the summer.  While the actual procedures are still getting decided, we will align ourselves with best practices and guidelines from the state when we do it in terms of numbers of people, masks, social distancing, and the like. The dates should be settled at least for your planning purposes.

Wednesday, June 10                                  Chromebook Return Day and Summer Enrichment Packet Distribution

Families will be given a time window on this day to bring back any school-issued Chromebook.  This was originally a day just for Chromebooks distributed because of the closure, but will now include all 5th grade Chromebooks as well.  This is a change from what I have discussed with many teachers and families.  There has been a recall on these Chromebooks and we need them back to get them fixed for redistribution in September.  The summer packet will have many non-digital options.

Monday, June 15                                        5th Grade Drop Off and Locker Clean Up

5th grade students will be given windows of time that day to come into the school, return library books and other textbooks, clean out their lockers, and wave goodbye to teachers.  This process will be repeated for the other grade levels also.

Tuesday, June 16                                         6th Grade Drop Off and Locker Clean Up

Wednesday, June 17                                  7th Grade Drop Off and Locker Clean Up

Thursday June 18 and Friday June 19     8th Grade Drop Off and Locker Clean Up

We are spreading out the 8th grade over two days to ensure we are able to get the above stuff done, while also taking a little time with each student and family to give over certificates and awards, take a picture or two, and give them a few more moments with their teachers to wrap up their WMS experience than would be possible if we tried to do it all on one day.

Details on all of the above will be forthcoming.  Unfortunately, we will have to wait for the most recent state guidance for keeping students, staff, and families as safe as possible to have the full details worked out.  I appreciate your patience.

I hope everyone is doing as well as can be under the circumstances.

Thank you.

Joseph Connor, WMS
