Wamsutta Family Update 09/06/2019
Posted on 09/06/2019

Good afternoon, Wamsutta Families.

I believe we have had another successful week of school.  Our ID compliance has been excellent, and we truly appreciate families’ efforts to get their children to school with their IDs.  We look forward to our first full week next week, and I hope the students do as well.

BACKPACK ALERT AND DIGITAL NOTICES:  All students received a notice about art classes at the Attleboro Arts Museum and a flyer for the Big Read on paper today.  Attached are notices from the APL, Titans Youth Lacrosse, and the Friends of the Attleboro Animal Shelter.

I have a few items of note for you this week.

1.       Ms. Harney, our new music teacher and band director, will be meeting with 5th grade students over the next week to demonstrate some instruments and see who might be interested in joining the band.  No experience is required.  She will also be inviting band members from last year for an informal organizational meeting next Wednesday during the school day.  We will have information about an instrument rental night for interested families in the next several weeks.

2.       Grade 6 and 7 planners will be available in homerooms next week starting Monday.  They are $3, and we accept cash or checks made out to the WMS PTO.  We expect all 6th and 7th graders to purchase one.

3.       From the School Nurse:  Families with 7th grade students, please be sure you have sent in to school a copy of your student’s updated immunization form, as this is mandatory for all 7th graders.  Parents of students with allergies requiring epinephrine, please contact the nurse regarding paperwork and medicine, Mrs. Deshowitz 508-223-1544.

4.       Our PTO’s first meeting will be Tuesday in our Library at 6:30.  Here is a link to RSVP for attendance purposes:  signupgenius.com/go/8050b4caaa82aa5fc1-ptomeeting

5.       The PTO will continue collecting sneakers for the couple of weeks.  As a result of a student’s initiative, we are also collecting canned goods and bottled water for Hurricane Dorian victims in the next week as well.  Boxes are in the foyer, and students and families can simply drop them off there.

6.       I am still waiting to hear about the details of Grade 5 Chromebook distribution.  As soon as I hear, I will let 5th grade families know.

Dates to Remember:

·         Tuesday, September 10th: First PTO Meeting in the Library, 6:30 PM

·         Thursday, September 26th:  Back to School Night for families from 6-8 PM

·         Monday, September 30th:  School Picture Day

Thank you for your time.
