Wamsutta Family Update 10/02/2020
Posted on 10/02/2020

The building continues to operate as safely as we can operate it, and I am very happy to see the roofing construction equipment on its way out.  We should have all our campus available to us in the next week, and we hope the weather holds up so we can stay outside with students as much as we can for as long as we can.  I only have one attachment for you this week and it is a notice from the Girl Scouts about an scavenger huny they are hosting in a few weeks.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT

This will be a virtual event on Wednesday, October 14 from 6-8 PM.  We are still working on the details, but we will schedule it so you will be able to meet all your child(s) teachers briefly, even if you have multiple students in the building.  Mr. Heal and I, along with Team Chair Ms. Levesque and Adjustment Counselor Karyn McGee, will make ourselves available digitally as well.  You will get a final schedule next week.

PTO

I am thankful for all the folks who were able to join us on zoom for our first PTO meeting of the year.  We talked about fundraising needs because field trips are unlikely this year, and a great deal of PTO money goes directly towards supporting the transportation costs of these trips.  We identified two needs that will benefit students this year:  More outside seating for students (picnic tables) and mats for students to sit on for classes and mask breaks outside.  Although our big fall fundraiser will be all online and you’ll get more info in the next weeks, there are ways you can start supporting these efforts now and they are listed below.  I also wish to make clear that the PTO and WMS Staff are keenly aware of the financial stress COVID has put on so many of our families, so no family should feel guilty if participation in our fundraising is a hardship.

Box Tops for Education

No more clipping or sending Box Tops to school! All you need is your phone. Download the ALL-NEW Box Tops app (available on the Apple app store or on Google Play), shop as you normally would, then simply scan your store receipts to find participating products. The app will automatically credit your school's Box Tops earnings online. Twice a year, the school will receive a check and can use that cash to buy whatever it needs. Visit boxtops4education.com for additional information about the program.

STUDENT SURVEY

We are reaching out to your students directly for feedback on how things are going this year.  I just wanted families to know we are doing it and we plan on doing something similar with families shortly.

THIRD NOTICE:  REMIND EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION

Almost all my communication with you will be via email.  Wamsutta now has a remind account as well, and I realize the emails and reminds are tough to keep up with.  I am going to use the school remind account for urgent messaging only.  This would be for really time sensitive stuff:  COVID news, a bus accident, an unplanned evacuation, or the like.  That’s it.  So I hope everyone signs up here
