Wamsutta Family Update 10.13.17
Posted on 10/13/2017

Good morning, Wamsutta Families.  It was another good week of focused teaching and learning here at WMS, and we look forward to s strong run of student progress from here to Thanksgiving.  To keep you up to date, please note the following:

  1. Backpack alert and digital notices:  Information about the PTO’s 6th Annual Holiday Fair went home with all students today.  They are looking for donations, volunteers, and vendors.  Information on the Family Fun Day to benefit the Ariella Marie Memorial Foundation (for grades 5-7) and classes available at the Attleboro Arts Museum (all grades) are attached.
  2. We held a little ceremony to honor our September Students of the Month this morning.  Check our WMS’ Facebook Page for more information:  https://www.facebook.com/wamsuttamiddleschool/
  3. We have a new resource for families available.  After repeated discussions with families over the difficulties encountered by the question “What did you do in school today?” we are presenting our Curriculum Calendar to try and help.  It’s a one page per month link letting you know the big picture curriculum work done here on a subject-by-subject, month-by-month basis.  This is an experiment on our part, and we are building this airplane while it’s already flying, so please forgive any typos or incomplete information.  The Calendar can be found here and I’ll send messages when each month’s entry goes up:   https://goo.gl/b1jAtf.  Although most of this information can be found between Aspen and other teacher resources, we thought it would be nice to have an easy to use, one stop shop for this kind of information.  I truly would welcome any and all feedback on this project.
  4. Fundraising Update:  Our Penny Wars our continuing, and, as of this moment, 5th grade is in the lead to win a grade-wide pizza party.  Please send in any pennies to benefit your child’s grade level, and larger coins and bills to set other grades back in the attempt to win.  We are also still seeking gift card donations for our Calendar Raffle.  Gift cards can be placed in an envelope marked PTO and dropped off here at the main office.  Our slow start in gathering donations has led us to push back the deadline for donations a week or two, so there is still time to contribute.  I’ll send out another message once we are ready to start selling our calendars.
  5. Student flu clinics will be next Friday, October 20th.  Contact our school nurse at rdeshowitz@attleboroschools.com with any questions.

Thank you as always for your time and attention.
