Wamsutta Family Update 10/16/2020
Posted on 10/16/2020

Good afternoon.  I’d like to thank the many families who were able to join us at our Virtual Back to School Night.  If you were unable to make it and have any questions, please contact me.  We will have virtual Parent Conferences in December once Trimester One report cards are given out.

We have attachments this week from the Cub Scouts, the Youth Center at Bartek Recreation Center, Drive-in Movie Night at Sensata, and Open Lab Week from Bridgewater State.  Other attachments are described below.

AFTER SCHOOL VIRTUAL ACTIVITIES

Our normal offering of after school activities have (like everything else) been severely disrupted by COVID.  So we are starting off with just a few offerings and will add more as we go.

We begin with Band which is open to returning band members from last year and students with some instrumental experience who are new to us.  It will be on Tuesdays after school and interested students should contact Ms. Harney at sharney@attleboroschools.com.  We hope to add beginner band and chorus once we have this rolling.

Ms. James will be hosting a monthly Harry Potter Book Club on Tuesday, November 10 and Tuesday, Dec 10 at 3:30.  Contact Ms. James at jjames@attleboroschools.com if interested.

BACKPACK ALERT FOR MONDAY AND TUESDAY

We will be distributing school pictures, Feinstein Jr. Scholar Cards, and Feinstein “Golden Tickets” on Monday and Tuesday of next week in homerooms.  AVA students who are interested in picking things up should call our office to set up a time for pickup.

SECOND NOTICE:  PTO  FUNDRAISER

All students left with a fundraising information on paper last week.  I have attached the digital notice from Meadowfarms again.  We are selling candles for our fall fundraiser, and they get shipped directly to your home, so it should be both easier and contactless.  Support us if you can.

SECOND NOTICE:  ONLINE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM:  ATTLEBORO YOUTH ON THE RISE

The Attleboro Youth on the Rise (AYOTR) program is committed to building strong, trusting relationships, positive attitudes, and life skills in youth through mentoring and fostering leadership skills.  There is more information is in the attachment.

AYOTR works with 7th and 8th grade students who may need some additional mentoring. Students who are selected will participate in a 7-week program led by officers of the Attleboro Police Department and various guest speakers. This year’s topics include cyber safety, social media, self-image/emotional safety, conflict resolution/mindfulness, substance abuse, and mental health.  Material will be presented via Google Classroom twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. The sessions will begin on October 13, 2020 and are expected to run until November 26, 2020.  Any students or parents interested in participating or in more information, please email kmcgee@attleboroschools.com or dheal@attleboroschools.com
