Wamsutta Family Update 10/18

Wamsutta Family Update 10/18
Posted on 10/18/2019

Good afternoon, Wamsutta Families.  Items 2-5 are repeats, but worth looking at if you missed last week.

Backpack Alert and Digital Notices:  School pictures are going home with all students today.  If there are errors or your student did not receive one, please contact our main office.  Also home on paper for the 8th graders is a special yearbook ad offer for interested families.  Lastly, and most importantly, MCAS reports are being sent home with every student who took the MCAS in the Attleboro Public Schools last spring.  Although only one measure of student growth and achievement, it is one of the most valuable measures of how your child is progressing.  Please review it carefully and I am happy to answer any questions you may have.  There are no digital notices this week.

  1. After School Activities were well attended and there were only a few issues with busing.  As of yesterday, these are the late bus stops:

Locust St X S Main St

Attleboro Crossings (Seabra, Dunkin Donuts)

Maple St X O’Neil Blvd

Park St X Sturdy St

Park St X Bishop St

Park St X Spruce Ln

Slater St X Michael Rd

Slater St X Metacommett Dr

Turnaround on Metacommett

Pike Ave X Autumn Ln

Pike Ave X Butterworth Dr

Pike Ave X Harvey Rd X Peckham St

Pike Ave X Station St

The issues we have had have been able to be sorted out through effective communication.  Please let

me know what issues you may be having.  Lastly, please use our loop behind the building for all drop-offs, and pick-ups, even after school.

2.  FLU CLINIC SECOND NOTICE:  The Attleboro Public Schools and the Attleboro Health Department will be offering a school-based Flu Clinic at Wamsutta Middle School on Friday October 25, 2019 during school hours. If you would like your child to participate, forms can be printed from here.  The permission form AND screening questionnaire must be filled out COMPLETELY including insurance information and returned to the school nurse by the day of the school clinic.  Your child will NOT be immunized if the forms are not filled out completely and signed. Please be aware that the “Flu Mist” is NOT available this year. Your child will only be able to receive the injectable form.  There is no out of pocket charge and your insurance will be billed directly. If your child does not have insurance or if your insurance does not cover the cost of the flu vaccination, the flu vaccine will still be administered free of charge. Please only use the current years forms for 2019.

  1. STEM WEEK SECOND NOTICE:  Next week, we will be having our first STEM week.  Teachers in all grade levels sacrificed a few days of their summers to take part in training for this grant-funded initiative.  We will suspend the regular course of our curriculum to engage students in a week-long, interdisciplinary study of the following topics:  Ecosystems in Grade 5, Building A Lunar Colony in Grade 6, Kinetic Sculpture in Grade 7, and Surgical Techniques in Grade 8.  We hope this will be an engaging and fun way for students to explore STEM topics and hopefully inspire students to further exploration and study of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
  2. PTO UPDATE 1 SECOND NOTICE:  The PTO has a fun day planned for November 5th, which is a Tuesday when the kids don’t have school.  It’s WMS day at Altitude Trampoline Park, and sign ups and payments are due on October 25th.  Paper flyers went home last week and our PTO’s Facebook page has more info on it as well.  The facebook page is here.
  3. PTO UPDATE 2 SECOND NOTICE:  If you use Amazon a bunch as my family does, you can support WMS while you shop using Amazon Smile.  It’s pretty easy to set up and you can find the info here.
