Wamsutta Family Update 10/09/2020

Wamsutta Family Update 10/09/2020
Posted on 10/09/2020

Good morning.  We have attachments with information from the Youth Center afterschool program, a reminder about 7th grade immunizations, and a flyer for our PTO’s fall fundraiser.

We hope the following schedule will allow all our families to meet with all their children’s teachers.  Each team of teachers will conduct 4 brief presentations beginning at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30, then allow some time just to say hello and ask a few questions.

We are asking families to adhere to the following suggested times so we do not overload our google meets with too many families.  My understanding is that Google Meets is capped at 100 participants.  If most of us can follow the suggested times, it shouldn’t be a problem for some of our families to deviate from the schedule when necessary.  If you are in a Cohort other than A or B, or your last name doesn’t fit within the standard alphabetical cohort assignment, feel free to attend the meetings that work best for your schedule.

***Please note, you will need to use your child’s attleborops.net account to gain access to these meets.  Please make sure you know your child’s Google login and password.  Call our office today, Tuesday, or Wednesday if you require assistance.  All links to google meets will be sent via email on Wednesday.  They will be sent to both students and parent email addresses,  but please login as your student on Wednesday before the event, check their email for a message from me, and you should be able to click on the meetings to join.***

The administration team, our Team Chair, Speech Pathologist, and Counseling Team will also host google meets from 6-8 PM and you can stop by anytime.  Again, the Meet links will be sent Wednesday.

They will be available in the Aspen portal by Tuesday afternoon under the “Published Reports” section.  Please note that these reports are based on a pretty small sample size, but our goal in having them for you early is to give you a sense of how things are going for your student if you don’t already.

All students left with a fundraising information on paper yesterday and today.  I have attached the digital notice from Meadowfarms in case the paper did not make it you.  We are selling candles for our fall fundraiser, and they get shipped directly to your home, so it should be both easier and contactless.  Support us if you can.

The Attleboro Youth on the Rise (AYOTR) program is committed to building strong, trusting relationships, positive attitudes, and life skills in youth through mentoring and fostering leadership skills.  AYOTR works with 7th and 8th grade students who may need some additional mentoring. Students who are selected will participate in a 7-week program led by officers of the Attleboro Police Department and various guest speakers. This year’s topics include cyber safety, social media, self-image/emotional safety, conflict resolution/mindfulness, substance abuse, and mental health.  Material will be presented via Google Classroom twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. The sessions will begin on October 13, 2020 and are expected to run until November 26, 2020. Any students or parents interested in participating or in more information, please email mgaffney@attleboroschools.com or elacasse@attleboroschools.com.

Almost all my communication with you will be via email.  Wamsutta now has a remind account as well, and I realize the emails and reminds are tough to keep up with.  I am going to use the school remind account for urgent messaging only.  This would be for really time sensitive stuff:  COVID news, a bus accident, an unplanned evacuation, or the like.  That’s it.  So I hope everyone signs up here

We continue to get great compliance on safety protocols from our students, great communication from our families about anything health related, and herculean effort from staff to try to make the best of this hybrid model for our students.  None of it is easy, but I believe we are getting better on a day to day basis.  Please let me know if you feel differently.

Thank you for your time.
